Fuel Level Sender

The fuel level sender is the device that tells the fuel gauge what the level is, and also tells the low fuel indicator when to turn on.  It is located beneath the trunk carpet, behind an access panel.

To test the sender, unplug the cable that is connected to it.  There are three contacts in this connector.  The figure shows the orientation of the three contacts, as you look at the sender.  You can use an ohm-meter to verify that the sender is operating correctly.  If you want to check whether the low fuel indicator light is working properly, simply short the two outside leads of the cable connector -- turn the ignition key to ACC position, and the low fuel light should come on.

Following are some checks you can make using an ohm-meter: <!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->
